the top 10 games of '09

2009 has been a pretty good year for gamers,we all know there were games released this year that literally blew us away and "blasted" our minds(russell peters :P),so heres my list for the top 10 games of the year

10.Madworld

platform-Nintendo wii

Why's mad world on this list?its on this list because it's the first wii game that i actually had fun playing,i agree i was swinging the nunchuck and the damn wii remote like crazy wheni bought the console,but wii sports and mario just entertains you for a couple of days,madworld was like a breath of fresh air,a wicked chainsaw loads of brutal finishes a great soundtrack...whoa!awesomely gruesome sin city style,i agree that its not one of the greatest game ever but this game is what made me realize that my wii console wasnt a complete waste of money

9.gta-china town wars

platform-ds (and later on the psp)

this was hard to digest at first,gta on the ds..meh...how good can it be?well the game was frikkin awesome the only problem was that majority of the ds owners were kids(nintendo being family friendly and all)

8.killzone 2

platform-ps3

there wasnt one ps3 fanboy in this world who wasnt waiting for this game,and it did live up to its expectations,it was a well detailed shooter with an amazing multiplayer mode,the only problem was that killzone geeks never liked anybody criticizing their precious game "ur biased b**ch!ps3 rockzzzz xbox suckzzz!!!!!"...um..ok

7.resident evil 5

the much awaited re5 was finally out,it wasnt as epic as re4, thats probably why everyone forgot about it a couple of months after its release, but u cannot deny the fact that it was definitely one of the best games that came out this year,its got an amazing online co op and great visuals.

6.brutal legend

i shouldnt be including this game on my list because i havent played it yet but its tim schafer and jack black!come on! a game based on rock music?think a bad ass version of tenacious d(yes kyle gass does make an appearance)

5.street fighter IV

the gran daddy of all fighters staged a major comeback earlier this year,capcom perfected street fighter in a way no one thought was possible,the trailer alone had thrown me off balance and i promised my self that i will buy the game as soon as it was released(and i did),slick graphics and superb gameplay has reestablished street fighter as the king of all fighters(pun intended)

4.assassins creed II

quite frankly,i wasnt looking forward for ac II,but i was pleasantly surprised.Ubisoft had revamped the entire game while keeping the good bits from its predecessor,unlike the prequel ac II had an actual storyline allthough ezio isnt the most likeable character.(i think altair had more of a backstory in this installment),new weapons,slicker assassination techniques,shops and best of all,the game isnt repetitive.

3.modern warfare 2

arguably the most awaited game of 2009,the game was so amazing that i didnt even notice the weak plot,well crafted and its probably the best fps around right now.

2.uncharted 2:among thieves

nathan drake returns in unchartered 2,this epic action adventure cemented ps3's position as the no.1 console this year.intense battles,beautiful visuals and everything else u need in a game,if u dont own a ps3,then this game is a good enough reason to buy one.

1.batman:arkham asylum

arkham asylum is this year's biggest surprise,the game kicked major ass and there has never been a comic book game that was this good,its the first time anyone has got batman right in a game, and all the original voice actors from the cartoon being involved....it was like every fanboy's dream come true,and the gameplay was awesome ,stealth with a bit of standard beat em up...beautifully made with great character usage.

Its been quite some time since i posted something,i guess i was a little too busy(i kid, i kid),anyway it is the new year(16 days late) and you know what that means,its the time you make those silly resolutions even though you know your definitely not going to keep them.I used to be in the habit of writing resolutions a couple of years back,it usually began like this,"this year i will turn into a new leaf"and then,i made sure my mother came across this blasphemous statement and she would turn to me with a tear in her eye and ruffle my hair(i was in grade seven mind you),the ruse works perfectly until my mother realizes that i was never a leaf in the first place . Anyway im not here to bore you with mindless chit chat about my new year resolutions,i just wanted to remind you that a new year has begun,wait a new decade has begun,do you know what that means?that means ive got shitloads of stuff to write about!come back here in a while to check out lists of what you shouldnt have missed and stuff you should have completely ignored in the last year(or decade)

sweet retroism

Last night was pretty boring so i ended up watching motorhead's and ice T's "born to raise hell" on youtube and that's when i remebered the ice T and soulja boy's brawl/feud/"beef".I had found the whole thing hilarious.Ice T and soulja boy?come on!we had a legend trying to dis an upcoming artist and what they ended up doing was ruin their reputation.But i had to side with ice T,i totally understand how he feels ,anyone who hates "crank dat" would.(superman that oh?).the fact is that you cant compare good music to the crap they dish out today,im not talking about just hip hop(not a huge fan :P)take rock for instance the greatest music came from the 70's and 80's..i mean i still listen to acdc,i still worship metallica and i still rock out to ace of spades and just to prove my point there were no Jonas brothers back then.The 90's weren't bad either remember all those cartoons with wicked rock and metal themes and openings(swat cats ftw!).

The good thing is that all things retro are staging a major comeback chucks,aviators,muscle cars and colour(seriously i was getting tired of all the "emo"ism),one thing i cant stand are the remakes and remixes( makes me want to go on a huge rampage)have you seen the new speed racer and transformers cartoons?the guys who made it massacred my childhood.kids today think that "ben 10" is the best thing that ever happened to them and i sigh and shake my head.'nuff said,they don't make things like they used to(except for games but the 90's gave us contra,street fighter2 and bionic commando :D).So lets do this world a favour and pray"new" artists like soulja boy wont pop up anymore.

the movies that killed the comic book

Ive seen a lot of people post a blog on "the best comic book movies"and it generally comprises of the following:

road to perdition etc.

but there are some weird stuff too,here's my list of the worst comic book adaptations

hellboy II:the golden army:

Hellboy 2 was like halo you either hate it or love it.I belong to the segment that hates this movie and i was pretty surprised to know that it was 88% fresh on the tomatometer.I may have liked it if i were ten years younger but i barely stayed awake through the entire movie.prince nuada was played exceptionally well by Luke Goss and Abe was given more screen time which was pretty cool.

xmen 3

This movie was a disaster,when i heard Brian singer was leaving the franchise to direct superman i never thought it would be noticeable.Brett Ranter thought that he could compensate for the weak plot by introducing a lot of mutants(screwed up versions).He gave us an emotionally distraught wolverine which sucked!As if that weren't bad enough he casts Vinnie Jones as the juggernaut(im the juggernaut bitch!)

batman & robin:

This movie nearly killed the entire franchise,who in their right mind would caste george clooney as batman?and then they take weirdness to a whole new level,batsuits were designed with frikkin nipples on them.Clooney could have pleased his female fans later.

punisher warzone:

well the punisher released in 04 seems semi classical when you compare it with this heap of junk

Director rob bowman probably thought that we would spend more time gawking at jennifer garner rather than paying attention to the plot,characters and dialogue.Will yun lee plays the baddie who speaks in clichés "We meet again!"...."It ends now!".....the last movie that used stuff like this was home alone.Frank Miller must have been real pissed.

catwoman:

absolute rubbish!

the spirit:it should have been "scream out in agony.".

barbwire:

the comic book lasted for 9 issues.the movie lost out to striptease at the razzies.

steel:

shaq was doctor john henry irons for 1hr and 37 mins.he uses his smart hammer to snipe people,how good could this movie possibly be?and why doesn't anyone shoot him in the jaw?cheap robocop rip off.

introduction and the transformers:revenge of the fallen movie review

well my exams were done and one uneventful road trip and a couple of movies later i was suddenly jobless.Well thats when i decided to start a blog,with every other bozo in town having one i almost felt impotent for never even attempting to start one but i never had the time to actually sit down and share my thoughts with a random bunch of people.So here i am sharing my views/thoughts on movies,games,sports,politics,comics,anime,food,college,cartoons,celebs,music,annoying kids etc.

be warned people my father calls me a "critic"(hence the blog name),so feel free to sympathize or criticize my views and please correct my spellings.

Anyway i watched "transformers:revenge of the fallen" today and to say the least i wasn't impressed.Its one of those movies where you realize how annoying your younger brother could be(that is if you were unfortunate enough to actually sit next to him at the movies).Michael bay could have named it "megan fox is hot!" and i am pretty sure it would have sold more tickets.

The movie consisted of a lot of running,yelling, loads of cheesy one liners,toilet humor(the horny dog joke got old with "click"),MEGAN FOX and a bit of auto bots.The fact that Optimus prime was dead for around 3/4th of the movie pissed me off,most of the autobots made cameo appearances and little kids were wondering why bumblebee didnt have more screen time.

The graphics were top notch and we get to watch prime's,bumblebees anime influenced fight scenes(3 in total),we get to watch a superhot megan fox playing the role of a dream girlfriend,we get to see megan fox on a bike,we get to see megan fox run in slo mo,and we get to hear all the people around you go "oooooh" when they see megan fox.

The movie is dragged on unneceassarily for 2 and a 1/2 hours, it would have been better if it were shorter.

i would rate it 5/10

i recommend this movie for those of you who:

1.would love to see an amalgam of power rangers and black hawk down(minus the gore)

2.have got annoying younger brothers

3.are below 15

4.have got lots of money and dont have any clue on how to spend it

i firmly discourage people who:

1.loved the cartoons

2.didnt like the first movie

3.loved the first movie

4.despises bullshit
